Biografi John Dewey John Dewey lahir di Burlington, Vermount pada tanggal 20 Oktober 1859, anak ketiga dari empat bersaudara dari pasangan Archibald Sprague Dewey dan Lucina Artemesia Kaya. Som vuxen upp gick John Dewey på Burlington offentliga skolor och utmärkte sig som student. John Dewey is credited with being the progenitor of many modern educational ideals, critical thinking being no exception. He states that reflective thinking, his homologue to critical thinking is an "active, persistent, and careful consideration of a belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the grounds which support it and the furthest conclusions to which it ends (1910, p. 6).” Sehingga disini benar atau tidaknya suatu teori tergantung pada bermanfaat atau tidaknya teori itu bagi kehidupan manusia; dan ukuran untuk segala perbuatan tergantung pada manfaatnya dalam praktek.

John Dewey vidhöll att människor bör lära sig om demokrati, så att de kan skaffa sig en modell som hjälper dem att bli de kritiskt tänkande elever som samhället har nytta av.
